Full Description

{1} Monument. Early C20. Limestone ashlar. Roman Ionic column on a plinth with 4 steps. Commemorates Lieutenant Percy Piltcher R.N. who flew in Stanford Park using an early flying machine 30th September 1899.

{3} Pilcher was first man to fly in England. He worked and experimented at Stanford with late Adrian Lord Braye, and was killed whilst flying there in 1899. Full-size replica of 1898 craft at hall.
