Compliance
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
You cannot navigate the interactive map page with a keyboard.
Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Interactive maps
We use maps to share geographic information about the historic environment on the website. Maps are exempt from the accessibility regulations.
It is not possible for someone using a keyboard to use the interactive map and therefore to access datasets and layers. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).
Some images within the maps do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
It is not possible to increase the size of all text by up to 200%, so that partially sighted people can comfortably read content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.4 Resize text (AA).
The language for the interactive map page is not specified because adding language will break some map functionality, so people using a screen reader may not hear the correct pronunciation. this fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.1.1 Language of page (A).
It is not always possible to tell which element has keyboard focus so sighted keyboard cannot see where they are on the page. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 Focus visible (AA).

This website links to third-party, external websites or services that may not be fully accessible.

Some historic PDFs were created prior to September 2018. These are not needed to perform a service and are not within the scope of the regulations.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
We have an ongoing commitment to make our website as accessible as possible to all.
