Welcome to Northamptonshire’s Historic Environment Record

Northamptonshire is known as the county of ‘spires and squires’; its churches and country houses are well-known, but it has a rich and varied history and archaeological heritage beyond that. The Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record (HER) is a database that records all known archaeological sites, finds and historic buildings in the county. It contains over 66,000 records ranging from palaeolithic flint tools, to Roman villas, to a Cold War Thor missile site.
