Full Description
{1} The early-middle Saxon activity forms the earliest sign of occupation in the area, which may have been centred on a substantial sub-rectangular feature, related postholes and a remnant of an east-west aligned gully. The sub-rectangular feature measures almost 3m N-S and 2m E-W. The sides of the feature were steep with a flat base. Two cuts were visible, probably from two phases of a broad flat bottomed pit cut on slightly different alignments.
Several postholes may have formed part of two possible linear structures, both on an east-west alignment. One line was on the south side of the pit and the other on the east. The linear structures probably formed fences, defining a possible plot 5m wide.
Occupation evidence included a pit which could possibly represent a sunken floored building, though if so the excavated part did not contain any excavated features.
