Full Description

{1} Considerable quantities of pottery and limestone rubble were recovered at either side of the bridle way to Keyston. Close to the junction with the back lane 16 sherds within a 20m stint mark the position of a forerunner of a house shown in the Inclosure Map. The concentrations further along the bridleway appear to be confined to the area of ancient enclosure shown in C19th maps, thus suggesting that these mark earlier boundaries. The pottery covers more than 4ha, possibly indicating widespread settlement which appears to have been abandoned in the late medieval period.
