Full Description
{1} T.C. Welsh describes a promontory extending north from the edge of the bowling club building. He interprets this as a motte or ringwork liked to the higher ground by a causeway or linear earthwork, 2m high within a ditch and bank but with only a terrave at this level on the steeper west side. To the east is what appears to be an oval enclosure formed by a ditch and further defined locally by a natural escarpment.
{2} Trenches were placed to investigate these possible earthworks. No archaeological features were recovered; the 'features' corresponded to changes in the underlying natural geology of the area.
