Full Description
{1} Three sherds of Roman pottery, one dated to the late 1st to mid 2nd century, were found on the surface within the interface with the subsoil. Five small fragments of animal bone was also found.
{2} Trial trench excavation found two parallel ditches, c3m apart, both of which contained pottery dating to the Roman period, although one also contained a single sherd dating to the 17th/18th century. Although the pottery may have been intrusive, a late 19th century field boundary lay in the same location, so the Roman pottery may in fact be residual.
Other, undated, ditches were also present.
