Full Description
{1} In the west area, trench 002 contained two parallel ditches. Both extended beyond the width of the trench; one was 1.50m wide and 0.64m deep and the other was 0.5m wide and 0.24m deep. The top fills were yellow-brown sandy-clays very similar in appearance to the geological substrate. This similarity meant that one ditch was only identified through further machine excavation and its cut could only be fully observed in section. The cuts were wide at the top with gently sloping breaks of slope with the sides becoming almost vertical at approximately half their depth and sharp breaks of slope at the base. The bases of both ditches were flat. One ditch may have been clay lined. Lying along the centre of the base ofone was a root fragment. Undated, abraded fired clay was recovered from one ditch.
