Full Description

{1} The house of the Wentworth's was demolished.

{2} Ground plans for the original Boughton Hall show a great hall with a screens passage dividing the entrance from the Hall itself, a musicians galley and a large fireplace on the east wall. All these features indicate a late medieval origin. Drawing done of the estate in 1732 shows the house with a central block facing west with wings projecting from the west side. There was an entrance archway in the north wing, which was two storeys high, with two wide projecting bays. To the east of the house lay a range of outbuildings.

{4} Manor house on seat of the Earl of Strafford is old but not large. It is pleasantly situated upon rising ground which commands a very extensive prospect. The gardens and woods adjoining it are well disposed. Part of the house pulled down by Jn Priscoe. Now in the possession of the Earl of Strafford, who by a late purchase from the Lord Ashburnham, mortgagee of Sir John Briscoe, bought with the manor a considerable estate in Boughton and Pitsford.

{5} Baker, writing in about 1820 describes the house as 'nearly levelled with the ground', but provides a sketch of the house as it was around thirty prior showing a gabled building enclosing three sides of a quadrangle.

{6} Depicts the early hall to the east of the modern hall.
