Summary

Group of post-medieval and modern buildings including the former mill and mill-house and an early 20th-century replacement of the mill-house. Water-powered brick corn mill with an entrance at 2 levels. The wheel is intact although the bottom is immersed in mud.

Full Description

{1} Brick building; the wheel is intact but the bottom is immersed in mud; the head race is overgrown but easily traced. The tail race runs into a brick-lined culvert before discharging into the stream. The mill was used for corn grinding.

c1200 Grant by Peter of Goldington to St Andrew's Priory, Northampton, of Theke (Teeton) Mill.
13th century William, son of William Brito of Tekne confirmed the gift of the mill to the Prior and monks of St Andrew's made by Lord Peter of Goldenton.
1619 Robert Briton, Esquire, paid £38 15s 0d for rent of this mill.
1672 Mrs Elizabeth Mulsoe paird 8s for the annual rent of this mill.
1718 After death of Robert Breton his four daughters and co-heirs alienated the manor of Teton, including the mill, to John Langton of London.
1798 Militia returns for Teeton show Thomas Hammons as having the watermill, capable of grinding 8 quarters per week.
1841-1924 Orland family, millers at Teeton Mill.
1894 Mill using steam power as well as water.
1940 Herbert Bream, last miller to be recorded in Trade Directories at Teeton.

1584 map of Finch-Hatton estates marks Titon Milne; 1813 survey plan for OS marks it Teeton Mill; 1827 Bryant's map marks it Teeton Mill.

External inspection in July 2000. Two storey stone mill, with one gable of brick. Adjoining the west end is a stone cottage, formerly the miller's house but by 1922 the house standing on its own to the south had been built for the miller. The group is now known as Titon Milne (as on the Finch-Hatton map).
