Full Description
{1} When the bowling green was made in the late C17th "foundation stones of buildings" were discovered. More recently more wall footings have been noted to the north. It is not known whether the Roman coin supports this being a Romano-British settlement, or whether it is an extension of the deserted medieval village (Mon 816).
{2} C.1720 "foundation stones of buildings" are said to have been dug up when a bowling green was made.
{3} Weekley: "here foundations, tessellated pavements and pot sherds have been found on the north side of the village at Castle Hedges near Boughton House, and coins have been dug up in front of Boughton House and at the bowling green (Vespasian, Trajan etc)".
{5} A coin of Vespasian found when levelling for a bowling green at Boughton (Boughton House centred at SP 900815).
