Full Description

{1} Farmhouse, now house. Dated 1822 on east gable, but with earlier origin. Coursed squared limestone and coursed limestone rubble, with hipped slate roof and stone end stacks. 3 storeys, 3-window range. Eaves cornice. Central entrance beneath cornice and panel with fluted keystone and foliar motifs. C20 glazed double doors and overlight. Ground and first floors have 8/8 sash windows and 2nd floor has 4/8 sash windows, all with fluted keystones. Plain flush bands at window head level. Wing to rear earlier, but substantially altered and roof raised, with plain tiles and end stack, casement windows and some blocked openings with wooden lintels. Lean-to beyond partly of chequered brick. Interior not inspected.

{3} Formerly part of West Farm. The curtilage of the farm was broken up long ago as most of the other farm buildings have been converted into residential use.

{4} At the turn of the 20th century the farm was worked by Thomas Dainty and comprised 150 acres.
'There was a thatched cottage at the back of West End House, numerous barns, pigsties and other out-buildings, stretching back to Back lane. The present cottages (42-46) were also barns and grain stores then, so this area at one time was entirely farm orientated'.
