Summary

Former Congregational chapel, originally built in 1810 as a preaching station of Weedon Bec, and converted to a Sunday school in 1880. Brick, slate roof. Single cell plan. 2 bays. West front has central 6-panel double-leaf door with round arched, gauged brick head with fanlight and semi-circular windows above with gauged brick heads and similar glazing to fanlight. Datestone in low gable above. Large round-arched windows to south side, 2 similar windows to east end with 2-light large-pane wood frames. Former vestry to north side, also of brick with gabled roof. Interior noted as having gallery at west end on octagonal columns with simple capitals.

Full Description

{1} Former Congregational chapel, now church hall. Dated 1810. Brick, slate roof. Single cell plan. 2 bays. West front has central 6-panel double-leaf door with round arched, gauged brick head with fanlight and semi-circular windows above with gauged brick heads and similar glazing to fanlight. Datestone in low gable above. Large round-arched windows to south side, 2 similar windows to east end with 2-light large-pane wood frames. Former vestry to north side, also of brick with gabled roof. Interior noted as having gallery at west end on octagonal columns with simple capitals.

{3} Now the Sunday School, built in 1810 as a preaching station for Weedon Bec with which the congegation at Flore had been associated since the late 17th century. The former chapel, of brick and slate, has a gabled west front with round-arched doorway, fanlight and semi-circular canopy; two lunettes light the back of the gallery. The side and rear walls have each two tall round-arched windows. Monuments: externally against the west wall (1) Richard Clark Smith, 1822, and Mary Smith, 1843, slate headstone; (2) George Smith, 1834; other headstones of the early 19th century stand in the burial ground to the south and west.
