Full Description
{1} Marked at point 'B' on enclosed plan; also says photograph enclosed but not in envelope by 1996.
{2} Comments compare plug in pipe with those in Litchborough ponds; wooden pipe and its plug were located about 3ft 6ins below ground surface. Position marked on enclosed plan.
{3} Possible Moat? Possibly originally medieval in date but much altered since. If medieval then may have been the site of the original manor house before Dingley Hall was built. A small rectangular island with featureless flat surface; ditches to south and east are 8m wide X 2m deep and are usually dry. To the west the ditch is wider and 1.5m deep, and water-filled. The north side is occupied by a large pond with a small island within it.It may have been a medieval moat, though it has certainly been much altered. If it is of Medieval origin it may be the site of the main manor house of the village before the present hall was built in the mid C16th.
It consists of a small rectangular island whose flat surface has no features. On the S and E sides the surrounding ditch is 2 m. deep and 8 m. wide and is usually dry. On the W side the ditch is wider, 1.5 m.deep, and water-filled. The N side is occupied by a large pond with a small island in it. In the external SE corner is a late C18th or early C19th well-head, enclosed by a stone building with a pedimented front and plain doorway. The moat is shown on a map of the parish of 1837 {6} exactly as it is now, but with the ditches completely water-filled
