Full Description

{1} A "tram road" in 1852 running in an arc across the field south of Mill Road to a point alongside the LNWR close to the bridge over the Nene. This may be the earliest known tramway for which there is cartographical evidence. When the Midland Railway was built it was necessary to build a bridge over the tramway (photo). Haulage would presumably have been by horse. There is no record of the gauge of rails. The bridge remains and a public footpath may follow the route. A curving low embankment between shallow ditches could possibly indicate the trackbed, but this could be wishful.
