Full Description
{1} While extending the excavation area in 2003 a body, or parts of a body were found, probably Saxon in date. Excavation of the pathway to the north also revealed several large slabs of limestone, and one, which was lying at an angle, revealed part of a skull.
In 2004 excavation was undertaken to examine the two burials revealed in 2003. Skeleton No.2 was found to have been buried with a dog, and iron oxide marks suggest that it was buried along with a sword.
Further excavation in this area (to the east of the bath house) in 2004 revealed further inhumations and bowls. One burial appears to have been only a skull, and another was that of a small child. A further body was found to the north of the bath house, with another to the west.
Subsequent excavation suggests that many of the burials had probably been damaged by later ploughing.
