Full Description
{1} The detailed survey has recorded numerous pit-type anomolies in the northern field. Their magnitude indicates significant magnetic enhancement of the soil such as would be produced by intensive settlement activity. Additionally, a few anomolies have been identified which suggest burnt/fired remains. However there is no clear evidence for trackways, enclosures and other larger settlement features which could place the pits in a wider archaeological context. It is possible that the pit-type anomolies represent the only surviving detectable remains of unenclosed settlement, but this interpretation is inconclusive. The prevailing geology is unlikely to have produced such responses but the possibility cannot be dismissed that some of the anomolies have been caused by deeply buried modern ferrous debris.
Very few anomolies of possible interest are noted in the southern field and an archaeological interpretation for all of them is tentative at best.
