Full Description
{1} Northampton Museum report from the 1920s records "a reputed Romano-British villa found in garden of Dr Robb's house". This is now the council offices and stands at SP94957082.
{6} Large quantity of Roman pottery sherds were found in and around the site of All Saint's Church, Irthlingborough, during the 1965 excavations there (see SP97SE16). Pieces of tegula, and a Roman floor tile and tessera, were also found (1) Much Roman pottery has also been found within 50 yards of Tankerdyke Hedge, near Mr Howe's Lodge ... In a field (a) contiguous to the churchyard are considerable entrenchments. (Hedge is presumably near the Church site).
{7} Northampton Museum report, in the 1920's "a reputed Ro villa in the garden of Dr Robb's house." Now council offices, this stands at SP94957082, nearly 400m NW of the church site excavated for the MOW by Mrs Brown, who has found much Ro material spread over a large area, partly in builders trenches, centred SP951 707. The subsidiary reference of Adcock comes from Cole {5}, 100 years earlier and local enquiries failed to locate the Tankerdyke hedge and Mr Howe's Lodge.
{8} Listed in gazetteer of Roman villas.
