Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A probable cremation urn was identified during trial trench excavation but not excavated. A single sherd of Beaker pottery found nearby indicates a probable Bronze Age date. Subsequent excavation revealed a Bronze Age cremation burial ground and later Anglo-Saxon settlement comprising a sunken-featured building.

Full Description
{1} In Trench 5, a possible Bronze Age cremation was uncovered on the south side of the trench. The cremation was not investigated. However, a fragment of Early Bronze Age Beaker pottery was recovered in the proximity of the cremation feature, thus indicating its Bronze Age date.
{3} A total of 27 cremations burials were excavated. These were largely clustered in the eastern part of the site. Of the 27 burials, seven were contained within urns. The burials had been placed within sub-circular pits. The 27 burials contained a minimum number of 38 individuals, with 24 of these representing adults. The identifed vessels were all typical of the Early Bronze Age. Adjacent to the Bronze age cremation burials was a sunken feature building that is sub circular in plan, with two sub circular post holes that are associated with it. These feature yielded 163 sherds of early Anglo-Saxon pottery.
