Description

University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) carried out an archaeological evaluation on land to the rear of Nicholas Road from the 15th to 21st November 2017 on behalf of Mr Mark Flood. Fourteen trenches, totalling 756m2, a 2.5% sample of the site, were excavated to evaluate a field adjoining a recently developed area, where it is proposed to construct 124 new dwellings (Planning Ref: 17/00969/OUT). The archaeological evaluation recorded two gullies of uncertain date in Trench 1 and a possible Bronze Age cremation in Trench 5. Trenches 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 revealed mixed burnt deposits possibly related to the brick and tile industry. The site archive will be held by under the Accession Number ENN108940.
