Summary
Excavation of a trench for a new electricity supply to Apethorpe Palace identified a possible buried soil. A fragment of box flue tile and three sherds of Nene Valley ware were recovered from the feature. It was located c175m south-west of the villa.

Full Description
{1} Excavation of trench for a new electricity supply to Apethorpe Palace. An indistinct layer, below topsoil and colluvial build-up and c850mm below ground level, was revealed. The probable natural depression lay in the upper surface of the natural clay. Three sherds of unabraded Roman pottery and two fragments of box flue tile were found in the layer. It was probably associated with wider activity around Apethorpe Roman villa situated c175m to the north-east.
