Description

{1} The trenching for a new electricity supply to Apethorpe Palace uncovered two discrete but widely separated deposits; one Roman, almost certainly associated with a known villa and the other representing a small layer of domestic debris associated with eighteenth-century occupation of the palace during the ownership of the estate by the Fane family, the Earls of Westmorland. The latter probably relates to the creation of a northern driveway between 1778 and 1790 when the present entrance was created. No other archaeological features or finds were revealed.
