Full Description
{1} Brass rubbings of Sir John Chetwode, Lord of Warkworth and Chetwode (1412); John Chetwode, Esq (1420); Margery Brounyng (nee Chetwode) (1420) and annabel, wife of Sir J Chetewode and Sir T Strange (1430).
{3} The village now consists of only five houses and farms on the east side of the street. It is impossible to discover the size of Warkworth in medieval times because of the dependent hamlets which lay within the parish and which were included with Warkworth in all the national taxation records. The only evidence of its size is given by Bridges in the early 18th century, when there were only five houses there, the same number as today. The relationship of the village to its now isolated church is also unclear.
Earthworks survive to the east of Manor Farm but none survive to the west of the road where all the land is now arable apart from a small quarry. There is also no indication on air photos that there were ever any earthworks here.It may be that Warkworth never consisted of more than a single main street with buildings on one side of it.
{4} Shrunken medieval village. Clear traces of house sites round village and extending as far as the church.
{5} (SP 487406) Warkworth: Church isolated, but village still there - shrinking?
{6} No surveyable remains. APs quoted indicate shrinkage only.
{7} Drawing of a bell dated 1897;
{8} Family tree, notes, shields, coats of arms, rubbing, newspaper cuttings, letters, paintings;
