Full Description
{1} Three trial trenches were dug; no significant stratification encountered; no features present; 27 sherds recovered during machining & cleaning;
{2} Likely to represent a manuring scatter. The lack of settlement activity along the western part of Grange Road corroborates interpretations of the development and origin of the modern village, which suggests that the village was formed by the fusion of two medieval settlements of late Saxon origin, Stanwick East and Stanwick West, which were separated by an intervening area, Central Stanwick, which, it is argued, was never extensively laid out with tenements and only sparsely inhabited.
