Full Description
{1} Medieval settlement and post medieval gardens excavation. The grounds of the park were landscaped, including substantial garden terraces which were aligned with the outbuildings of the hall. At either side of the hall there are large rectangles up to 40m by 30m, possibly representing individual partarres with smaller terraces around them. These appear to be constructed of embanked topsoil. }The road of the former village was reused to provide a route between the main garden features.
{2} Medieval settlement and post medieval gardens excavation by S Parry.
{3} The grounds of the later hall appear to have been landscaped at some point to create a series of substantial terraces. The new layout was aligned with the outbuildings, in which vanished elements are indicated by a rubble building platform at the southern end of the site. While the various ground alterations involved the re-siting of the northern part of an earlier side street, its southern stretch was retained to provide a route between the main garden features. At either side large rectangles may have formed individual parterres with smaller terraces around them. They were constructed of embanked topsoil and do not appear to have impinged on the original ground surface.
