Late Saxon pottery and sections of ditches, both found between the moated enclosure and the green, suggest a late Saxon origin for the settlement

Full Description

{1}Late Saxon ditches and pot sherds - earliest features recorded on settlement area. Excavated part of ditch was 11m long, but may form part of earlier system / layout of plots. 10th - 11th century date suggested for origin of settlement. 14 sherds of late Saxon pottery from late Saxon contexts, but 300 sherds from medieval contexts.
