Description

An iron trunk aqueduct carrying the Grand Junction Canal over the Great Ouse. It is in two equal spans supported by a central masonry pier with cutwater and cornice. The abutments have been renewed in blue and red brick. The plates in the two sections of the trough, which still holds water, are bolted together with flanges along radial lines. There are also flanges forming a segmental or bow-string joint. The tow path is bracketed out on the north east side. It is believed to be of about 1810 and to be the work of Jessops. <1> The ironwork has been defaced on both sides by graffiti executed in white paint. <3>
