Description

Farmhouse. Early/mid C17 with C18 additions, and C18 and late C19 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ironstone dressings, slate roof, brick end and ridge stacks. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic; 2-window range to street. Street front has 3-light leaded casement windows to ground and first floors with ironstone sills, jambs and flat-arched heads; chamfered ironstone plinth, quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. 1-light leaded windows to ground and first floor of left gable end with double-chamfered stone surrounds and blocked 2-light double-chamfered stone mullion window to attic. Wing to rear left of 2 bays has 2-storey gabled porch beside gable end of front block with Tudor-arched doorway, 2-light double-chamfered stone mullion window to first floor and blocked 1-light window to sides with double-chamfered stone surrounds. 3-light casement window to left of porch with chamfered stone surround of original stone mullion window and 2-light leaded casement window to first floor with wood lintel. Stone-coped gable with kneelers to original gable end. Continued by later slightly lower 3-bay wing with 2- and 3-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows, some with hood moulds, and stone-coped gable with kneelers. Attached cob wall, probably C18, runs from right corner of street front and encloses 2 sides of garden to rear of wing. Approximately 1.5 metres high and 44 metres long, with pantiled top. Interior: stop-chamfered spine beam and other boxed spine beams. Stone-flagged floors, stone fireplace in upper room with Tudor-arched head and straight-headed wave moulded stone surround. Collar-truss roof.
