Description
2 houses, incorporating shop and former forge. Probably C17, with later additions and alterations. Coursed limestone and ironstone rubble to domestic parts, former forge of squared stone with brick gable. Thatch and slate roofs with brick end stacks to each of 2 main blocks, and to ridge of forge. 2 storeys. South gable end has a C20 door and shop window with wooden lintels to ground floor, and a 3-light casement window above. Wing to left is former forge and has part of large double plain board doors. Lean-to to right also has C20 shop window and conceals part of right flank. Beyond this the thatched section of the building has a 3-light small-paned iron-framed gudgeon-hung casement window with wooden lintel to ground floor, and 2 2-light casement windows above (the thatch just lifted into eyebrows above them). To right again the slate-roofed block which has been heightened, has at ground floor level a C20 door, casement window, a blocked single light window, another C20 door and another 2-light window. First floor has 2 3-light casement windows. Wooden lintels. Interiors not inspected. Rendered flat-roofed block to right is not of special interest.
