Description

Formal pool. C.1930. Brick with concrete lining and limestone kerb. Rectangular with half-elliptical arm. Lead fountain-head to centre of arm of boy riding dolphin, probably C19 and of continental origin. The stone-paved terrace surrounding arm is flanked by limestone terms, three to each side, probably C18. Part of a formal garden layout devised by 1st Baron Hesketh and his head gardener, Swainson. Partly intended for use as open-air swimming pool. (Park and gardens included in H.B.M.C.E. Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade II*)
