Description
Statue. Early C18 copy of Giovanni de Bologna's Samson and the Philistine. Lead statue on ashlar plinth. Statue of wrestling figures. Located on main east/west axis of east front of Drayton House (q.v.) and mounted on terrace formed by retaining wall approximately 110 metres east of east front of Drayton House (q.v.). (Gardens included in HBMCE Register of Parks and Gardens at grade I. Cornforth, J., Country Life, 20th May, 1965, p.1216; Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p.189; Jackson-Sto s G, Drayton House, 1978).
