Description
Manor house, now farmhouse. Early C17. Squared coursed limestone with Colleyweston slate and pantile roofs. Originally Hall plan, now U-shape. 2 storeys. Main front of 4-window range, end bays break forward as gabled wings. Centre 2-window range of 2-light stone mullion windows with ovolo mouldings to ground floor and similar 3-light windows to first floor with gablets above. Gable ends of wings have similar 3-light stone mullion windows with transoms. Central door has moulded wood surround. Ashlar gable parapets and finials and ashlar stacks with moulded cornices at ridge. Rear elevation has central plank door and stone mullion windows to ground floor and casements with glazing bars, under wood lintels, to first floor. Interior: entrance hall has C18 style staircase with turned balusters. Room to right of entrance has C17 fireplace with 4-centred head set in a large open fireplace with bressumer. Fragments of C17 panelling in this room. Rooms in wings have moulded spine beams. The centre range was probably an open hall and has bases of arched-brace trusses in first floor rooms. Ground floor rooms to centre have chamfered beams, probably inserted when hall was subdivided.
