Description

House. C17, extended and altered C18 and C20. Coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, artificial stone slate roof, stone stacks. Through passage plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Doorway in second bay from right has wood lintel and plank door. Porch made up from re-used C19 wood carvings with twisted columns and thatched roof. Window to right has concrete lintel and 3-light wood casement. Semi-circular bread oven projecting to left. Windows in left bay and second bay from left, have wood lintels and 2-light wood casements. Window in third bay from left, 3-lights with transom, iron casement and wood lintel. 2-light casement windows with wood lintels on first floor. Stack to right of centre C18 and C20 extensions to rear. Interior: Stop chamfered spine beams and joists. Open fireplace and bread oven. Original winder staircase. Included as a documented example selected by R. Wood-Jones to illustrate the development of a small C17 house. (R.B.
