Description
Cottage. Dated 1653 with C19 and C20 extensions. Coursed squared limestone, thatch roof, brick end stacks, that to left original with stone base. 2-storey, 2-window range. 2-unit plan with narrow central unit divided in two with entrance lobby and staircase to front, pantry to rear. Central C20 door with wood lintel. 2-light casement windows to ground and 1st floors, those to ground floor replacing stone mullion windows and retaining hood moulds, those to 1st floor in eyebrow dormers. 2-storey, 1-bay extension to left side, single-storey C20 extension to rear. Datestone has fleur-de-lis flanked by roses below date. Ironstone quoins. Interior: little-altered plan with timber stud partitions to central entrance bay. Ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams to rooms either side. Open fireplace with chamfered bressumer. Stone doorway to left end wall, now internal, with sunk chamfered with 4-centred head, cut spandrels and rectangular moulded stone surround; C16 and almost certainly re-used, stone fireplace to room upstairs with moulded Tudor-arched head and cut spandrels, probably of similar date to doorway and from same source. Winder stair and roof with pair of trusses over central bay with clasped principals and collars; ridge piece and 2 tiers of purlins.
