Description

Brixworth Union Workhouse was built between 1835 and 1836 to designs by Mr Milne. Possibly extended in 1897. The workhouse was originally a variation of the cruciform workhouse plan, though most of the building has now (2007) been demolished. The building is faced with ironstone, with cut ashlar to the façade and coursed masonry to the sides and rear, the roofs are of slate. The main workhouse building included infirmaries in the end blocks of the main range. There were no detached infirmary buildings. The buiding now (2007) forms parts of Boniface House, which is a care home. Locally listed building.
