Description
6 Almshouses now 4, datestone 1651. Squared coursed lias with artificial stone slate roof. Originally one unit each, single storey. Each unit has 3-light restored stone mullion with C20 glazing. C19 ribbed doors in pairs under flat stone arched heads with keystones. School room attached to left probably early C19 of 2-window range in similar style. Ashlar parapets with brick stacks at ridge. Rear similar with paired entrances and sashes set in stone mullions. Inscribed tablet at rear, "Endowed by Sir John Langham Bart. Anno Dommini 1651". Right gable has C17 gable parapets and kneelers with moulded string course below. Original tablet dated 1651 in gable. (Buildings of England: Northamptonshire p.163).
