Description

Rectory, now house. Probably early and late C17 with C18 and C20 alterations. Squared coursed limestone with old plain tile roof. Originally 2-unit plan, now U-shape. 2 storeys with attic. Main front of 3-window range with central gabled porch. Central C17 plank door under 4-centred, chamfered stone-arch head. Early C20 three-light stone mullion windows and one 2-light casement, with stone surround to porch; all with leaded lights. Porch has small diamond window with quatrefoil in return wall. 2 flat-topped roof dormers and ashlar gable parapets. Ashlar stacks with moulded cornices at ends. Rear elevation has 2 projecting wings to left and right. That to right has similar detailing to the main front, that to left is timber framed with a close studded upper storey and a rendered ground floor with C20 leaded casements. Interior: room to left of entrance hall has large C17 fireplace with 4-centred arch head. 2 C18 alcoves in this room. Room to right of entrance has open fireplace with bressumer, carved by a former rector late C19. Room to rear left has a C17 fireplace with 4-centred arch head. 2 first floor rooms have similar fireplaces. Early C20 staircase. Stop chamfered spine beams. Some C18 two-panel doors to ground and first floor and plank doors to attic. Roof structure of main front has original collar trusses with butt purlins and some arched collars and tie beams. The timber framed wing was probably restored early C20. Said to have C12 origins.
