Listed Building: No.78 High Street (The Old Rectory) (1226907)

Rectory, now house. Mid C18, largely rebuilt 1837 by W.J. Donthorne. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar façade and Colleyweston slate and plain-tile roofs. L-shape plan. 2 storeys and attic. Main front is a 5-window range with gabled end bays breaking forward slightly. Central door, with traceried panelling, has 4-centred arch head with moulded stone surround and frieze above. 2-light stone mullion windows with transoms to ground floor and similar 2-light windows to centre 3 bays of first floor. First floor end bays have 3-light stone mullion windows with transoms; all windows have diamond leaded panes. Lancet windows in gables. Moulded cornice links head of first floor windows and has angel head corbels to centre 3 bays. Centre 3 bays have plain parapet and gables have ashlar parapets with large octagonal finials. Jacobean style chimneys at ridge and lateral stack with octagonal flues. Rear elevation has reused C18 sash windows. C18 range to left has brick return wall with one-window range of C18 sash windows with moulded stone architraves, and a mansard roof. Interior: C19 staircase with stick balustrade and C18 winder stair to attic. Some C18 panelled doors and C19 fireplaces in reception rooms.
