Description
Shown on Ordnance Survey map as No. 19. Town house, now office. C.1805, dated rainwater head c.1842 refers to extension and remodelling of entrance front. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar façade and C20 plain-tile roof. Double-depth plan. 2 and 3 storeys. Main front is a 3-window range. Central ashlar porch with square and reeded columns, dentilled cornice and 6-panel door. Tripartite sash windows with ashlar surrounds and keyblocks. Raised string course, dentilled wood cornice and ashlar gable parapets. 2-window range attached to left has dated rainwater head 1842 and sash windows with ashlar surrounds; those to first floor have keyblocks. Left bay breaks forward slightly. Raised string course and moulded cornice with plain ashlar parapet. Rear elevation is probably early C19; 3-window range of unhorned sash windows with glazing bars under gauged stone heads. 5-window range to second floor and C20 replacement windows. Centre bay breaks forward to ground and first floor and has gabled roof and large central sash window to staircase. Left gable has one sash window, with glazing bars, under wood lintel. Interior has large mid C19 staircase with square balusters. Included for group value. (Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p.430).
