Description

House. C17 extended twice during C17 once as datestone T.R.1698, probably for the Rippon family. Remodelled late C18 and partially remodelled and extended mid C19. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan with through passage, now irregular T-shape. 2 storeys, parts with attic. Main front of 3 bays with centre bay breaking forward as a gabled cross-wing. Bay to left is original C17 house, remodelled late C18, and has one-window range of C19 sash windows, under gauged stone heads. C20 single-light casement to first floor right of this bay. Wooden dentil cornice. Centre cross-wing is also C17 added to original house and remodelled C19. One-window range of C19 casements with glazing bars, under shallow stone arches, to each floor. Return wall of cross-wing has similar window. Bay to right is c.1698 and has lower eaves level. One-window range, with similar casement as cross-wing, at ground floor and plain casement under eaves, to first floor left. Datestone in gable end to right. C20 porch, with slate roof, at intersection of bay to left and cross-wing. Bay to left has raised band between floors and wooden dentilled cornice. This bay, extending to the centre of the range, has ashlar gable parapets and one, hipped, roof dormer. Ashlar ridge and end stacks and lateral brick stack to cross-wing.
