Description

Canal garden. c.1909-12 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Canal set in a paved sunken garden with herbaceous borders. Retaining walls of coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, with short flights of steps descending to the canal. The canal has an apsidal end with a cross arm. Links with a parterre, also designed by Lutyens, east of the Manor House (q.v.). (C. Hussey: Ashby St. Ledgers; Country Life, 1951, p.497 (illustrated).
