Description

Bridge across River Welland. Cole is medieval (C14?), parapets are modern, bridge widened on downstream side in 1911 with blue bricks and rounded keystone arches. Medieval bridge had three pointed arches with chamfered finish. A fourth pointed arch forms flood-extension on east. Westernmost arch is early C20. Cutwaters end below parapet level. Original width 4m. Built of Barrack stone. Bridge at this point is mentioned in 1380, then it was broken. Medieval bridge which now exists may represent the rebuilding. {AM7 1974}
