Description
Cottage. Datestone 1686; altered in C18 or C19. Coursed ironstone rubble. Gable-ended roof clad in asbestos sheets. Ironstone rubble gable-end stack. PLAN: 2 room and through passage plan, the right (west) room heated from gable-end stack, the lower end left room was probably originally unheated. In C18 or C19 the eaves were raised and a single storey wing was built behind the lower left end. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 2-window north front with small 2-light casements on right and small 3-light casements to ground floor left; central doorway with C20 plank door and datestone above inscribed: G over I.E. over 1686. Wooden lintels. Various small casements on east gable end. At rear south, central door and single-storey gable-ended wing on right. INTERIOR: Axial ceiling beams and fireplaces with timber lintels in both ground floor rooms, one fireplace has opening to oven which has been removed. Said to have various C19 plank doors. One truss survives, consisting of curved principals, crossed and halved at the apex and halved onto a tie-beam.
