Description

Stables. Probably C18, altered C19, screen wall and gateway C18. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. Colleyweston stone slate roofs, stone ridge and end stacks. South and west blocks forming L-plan linked by wall to north block. Wall pierced by gateway in the form of a 4-centred arch with cornice above, flanked by buttresses. At either end the gable ends of the north and south stable blocks have coped gables and pointed finials, a 2-light mullioned window with hood mould and, at ground floor level, a 3-light mullioned and transomed window with hood-mould. To courtyard, north block has central segmental-headed carriage opening with board door and round-headed overlight to left, and a small-paned casement window and a similar door to right; west block has 3 small-paned casement windows with similar doors to left and right, and a gabled dormer; south block has a stable door to left, then 3 segmental-headed carriage doorways and a blocked door, now window, to right. Interiors not inspected. Included for group value.
