Description
Garden wall and piers. Early C18. Coursed squared ironstone, ironstone ashlar, some limestone dressings. High stone wall running alongside road to Preston Capes and forming the N boundary to Green Court. Stone coped, with consoles where wall meets the NW angle of Canons Ashby House and at the other end of the Green Court where it turns to meet pier at this corner of Court. Pier has moulded plinth and cornice, plain sides and obelisk supported by 4 stone scrolls. To the park a low stone coped wall with timber posts at intervals with pierced finials supporting 2 wrought iron rails. Stone coping and scroll feet of obelisk largely renewed c.1981. Part of an important set of walls, gates and piers enclosing the early C18 formal gardens of Canons Ashby House (g.v.). (Canons Ashby gardens and park are included in the HBMC Register of Gardens at Grade II*).
