Description
The west side of this narrow roadway is bounded by a high stone wall enclosing the grounds of Bramston House. See MARKET PLACE (south side) for a description of the house. Three quarters of the way down is a good gateway. The gateway is early C18, segmental inset from road, 24 ft. wide, gateway approximately 10 ft. wide with 2 tall piers with entablature top and ball-on-pedestal finial. The wall is approximately 10 ft. high to the top of the coping, roughly coursed rubble. It continues from the rear of the house to the beginnhng of South Road continuing approximately 10 yards beyond the junction of St Osyth's Lane with East Road. Boundary wall and gateway of Bramston House form a group with Bramston House.
