Description

Manor house. Dated 1765. Limestone ashlar with C20 plain tile roof. Double depth plan. 2 storeys with attic. Main front of 5-window range. Central 6-panel door has moulded stone and eared surround with pulvinated frieze and cornice. Fanlight with diagonal glazing bars and quatrefoil. Sash windows with glazing bars under stone lintels with keyblocks. Chamfered plinth and rusticated quoins at corners. 3 hipped roof dormers. Moulded stone cornice and ashlar gable parapets with brick and stone stack at ends. Flight of steps with iron handrail to front door. Right gable has 3 cross casements under wood lintels. Central rainwater head from hidden valley has date and armorial crests. Rear elevation has irregularly spaced sash windows similar to main front. Interior: C18 staircase with turned balusters. First floor rooms have wood fireplace surrounds each with a pulvinated frieze. One has a moulded stone inner surround with reeded keyblock similar to fire surround at Stanwick Hall (q.v.).
