Description
Formerly called "Sunnylands", built 1894 for William Timpson, founder of nationwide boot and shoe manufacturing and retailing firm. Architect: J A Gotch. Red brick, gabled tiled roof, stone dressings. 3 storeys, moulded bands at window head levels, plinth, balustraded terrace on east front with steps north and south. Stone mullioned and transomed casement windows. Large chimneystacks with wedge shaped vertical mouldings, corbelled caps. Stone front doorway has arch in surround of Doric pilasters under enriched entablature carrying finials and strapwork. See British Architect, 24.8.1894.
