Description

House, now 2 dwellings. Early and aid C18 and datestone ABM/1859. Squared coursed and regular coursed limestone with lias dressings and C19 and C20 plain-tile roofs. Irregular U-shape plan. 2 storeys with attic. Garden front is a 4-window range of C18 sashes with glazing bars under shallow-arch heads with keyblocks. Central ashlar porch has arch head opening flanked by Corinthian pilasters and is said to come from Holdenby Palace. C19 cross-wing to right with Dutch style gable and first floor canted stone oriel window. Door below has attached window, with stone mullions and flanking twisted pilasters, probably re-set. Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers and pair of C19 hipped roof dormers with glazed sides . Brick and ashlar stacks at ridge and ends. C20 single-storey extension to left. Elevation to left abutts road and has C19 cross-wing to left with datestone and 2 leaded casements under wood lintels to right in early C18 wing. Central C19 door has re-set plaque above with arms of Queen Anne. Rear elevation to right has 3 C19 sash windows. Interior not inspected. C19 wall attached to right of garden front has arch head gateway. C20 extension to left of garden front is not of special architectural interest.
