Description
Manor house, now farmhouse. Late C17 and early C19. Squared coursed limestone with Colleyweston slate roof. Original plan indeterminate, now L-shape. 2 storeys with attic. Main front is early C19; 4-window range of sash windows. Tripartite sash window to far right and mid C19 two-storey canted wood bay window to left of centre. Other windows have glazing bars and are under gauged stone heads. Central 6-panel door is also under gauged stone head. Chamfered plinth throughout. 3 hipped roof dormers, ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stacks at ridge and end. Elevation to left of main front has twin gables. Two C17 doorways to centre, one now blocked, with moulded stone surrounds and 4-centred arch heads. 2-light stone mullion windows above doorways, one window also blocked. 2-light stone mullion attic window in gable has moulded string course above. Rear elevation has C17 wing projecting to right of 2-window range. 2-light stone mullion window to left and similar taller window, with transom, to right. Moulded string course between floors. Two 2-light stone mullion windows above, right hand window is blocked. Ashlar gable parapets and truncated ashlar stack at end. Range to right has central 4-panel door under wood lintel and one C19 sash window to right. Quadrant wall, attached to left of main front, has built-up coping. Interior not inspected but noted as having C19 stair in centre range and said to have C17 stair in south wing. Shown on drawing of 1702 as a 5-bay house with Dutch style gables. Largely demolished and reconstructed early C19. The Manor was held for a time by the Wood and Palmer families.
